Dame Anne Salmond - Opening kōrero

Dame Anne Salmond is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's most distinguished scholars and public intellectuals. An acclaimed anthropologist, historian, and writer, her influentail works - including Hui, Amiria, The Trial of the Cannibal Dog, and Tears of Rangi - explore the cultural encounters between Māori and European worlds. She has worked closely with Māori communities throughout her career and is committed to dialogue grounded in mutual respect. Dame Anne is a Distinguished Professor at the University of Auckland and had received numerous honours, including the Prime Minister's Award for Literary Acheievement and the Order of New Zealand - the country's highest honour. Her latest book, Knowledge Is A Blessing on Your Mind, reflects on a lifetime of scholarship and advocacy.
